The combination of many finely tuned measures ensures optimal reduction of scattered light. In addition to the ZEISS T* coating, all lens edges are elaborately handcrafted with a special pitch-black lacquer. The integration of specially calculated surfaces and light traps in mechanical components prevents reflections from occurring in the first place.
Due to their high imaging performance, the ZEISS Milvus lenses are specially designed to meet the requirements of current and future high-performance digital cameras. Due to the low level of stray light in the lens, high-contrast recordings are also possible with increasing dynamic ranges of the sensors (HDR). The optics have the potential to get the best out of high-resolution systems.
Operating a lens manually means controlling the image result gently and precisely with your fingertips and thus consciously designing it. A good ergonomic design makes the decisive difference. The ZEISS Milvus lenses impress with their large angle of rotation, which enables perfect focusing to the point. The stepless and noiseless aperture setting (de-click function with ZF.2 mount) enables the best conditions for videography in addition to the long focus path.
Not only the outstanding look and feel of the Milvus housing impresses, but the lenses also convince with their inner values. Special seals to protect against dust and splash water expand the creative possibilities to a wide variety of recording areas – this guarantees reliable function even under difficult conditions.
The floating element design ensures consistently high imaging performance in the focal plane – from the close-up limit to infinity. This is achieved by changing the axial distance between individual lenses or lens groups. The adjustment of the lens spacing and the distance setting are coupled here, so that the proper correction always results. The mechanical structure of the Milvus lenses is very complex and the processing has to be particularly precise – both are prime disciplines at ZEISS.
The Distagon optics design was originally developed for SLR cameras, which still require a long focal length due to the mirror box at short focal lengths (the distance between the rear lens and the film plane must be significantly greater than the focal length). Today, the Distagon lenses (retrofocus design) also play to their full potential in mirrorless system cameras due to their optimized beam path. With the high-performance Distagon design, a consistently good correction right into the corners of the image and a very low field curvature can be achieved even with longer focal lengths at a very high initial aperture.
