The e9u-LSMD-TCD1304-EDU was developed specifically for teaching purposes. Compared to the e9u-LSMD-TCD1304-STD, it offers deliberately reduced performance – but is significantly more budget-friendly and therefore perfect for internships, exercises, PoCs (proof of concept) and maker projects. It is aimed at professors, doctoral students, research assistants, and teachers, as well as tinkerers, makers, and pupils/students who want to work with real measurement data.

Hardware development has been completed and series production is being prepared (planned start: Q2/2026). We are currently polishing libraries, drivers, and documentation. Anyone who would like to get involved early on and provide feedback can already purchase prototypes as e9u-LSMD-TCD1304-EDU-EVAL at reduced prices. This EVAL variant is fully usable for teaching and laboratory environments, but is not yet suitable for safety-critical applications.

This module uses the TCD1304DG sensor without the standard cover glass and with an additional Lumogen coating to extend the usable spectral range into the UV and a new cover glass made of quartz. This makes the module ideal for use in spectrometers for e. g. the material analysis.

The cover glass is removed and the coating and quartz cover glass applied in-house at Eureca using specially developed processes. All sensors are tested for their function after the cover glass has been removed and the coating and the quartz glass have been applied to the respective camera module. If you do not need permanent protection from the quartz glass, you can also use a sensor with only the UV coating, which is protected by a film during transport. This must be removed before using the module.

Since the sensor is mounted on the module, it can easily be replaced by another sensor version if required. This can e. g. be the sensors in the standard version. But sensors only without a cover glass or sensors with special filters are also possible here.

After replacing the sensor, the module must be recalibrated. A special automatic program is available for this, which is included in the scope of delivery of the modules.
