USB cameras and camera boards

Eureca offers a series of USB cameras by FLIR (Point Grey) for image area sensors as well as USB camera boards by Spectronic Devices for linear image sensors.

There is the possibility to make several modifications for the cameras from as e.g. the cover glass of the sensor can be removed or replaced by a special filter. Similarly, a UV coating of the sensor is possible to use it also in the ultraviolet spectral range. By cooling the sensor and/or the entire camera the readout noise can be minimized. Due to the large range of different models, it is generally not possible to say which of these options are possible or even meaningful for a specific camera. Therefore, please contact us if you are interested and we will gladly advise you about the possible options.


Blackfly-S-Serie

Every Blackfly model comes packed with functionality designed to maximize performance and reliability, including a 16 MByte frame buffer; LED status indicators; and an on-camera image processing pipeline that provides color interpolation, gamma, and lookup table functionality.

The Blackfly camera weighs just 36 grams, measures 29 x 29 x 30mm and uses 2 watts of power.

USB camera boards by Spectronic Devices for linear sensors

Eureca supplies camera modules, which can be connected to the USB interface of a PC and are so very suitable for building up spectrometers or to be used as OEM components in optical measurement devices. Available are models for many CCD/CMOS linear sensors as well as for CIS modules (CIS = Contact image sensor).

The modules consist of two units, which are connected via a flat cable. An interface pcb contains the complete driving electronics, as well as all circuits for the USB interface. With models for CCD/CMOS sensors an additional small sensor pcb is used, so that the sensor can be mounted separate from the interface pcb. With CIS modules these are directly connected to the interface pcb.

The transmission of the recorded data to the attached PC is limited by the used USB interface. If the used USB port is slower than the pixel frequency of the camera, the internal memory of the camera board can be used to store multiple scans. After the memory of the camera board is exceeded, the recording has to be stopped until the data is transferred to the PC. The boards are supplied with software divers and a demonstration routine. Included are examples for programming in VisualC++, Visual Basic, Delphi and LabVIEW.

Software and drivers

The software drivers are available as DLL, COM or ActiceX. The communication via the USB or RS232 interface is also possible with a simple ASCII terminal. On request the boards can also be delivered with customized PID or VIS. Such a customized hardware allows an automatic identification of the camera in order to load a certain software. Mechanical dimensions of the boards

The following figures show the mechanical dimensions of the boards. Versions with CCD/CMOS sensors use a small sensor pcb. The light sensitive area of the sensor is here always centered between the mounting holes of the sensor pcb. Please note that the housings of some sensors are larger than the outline of the sensor pcb.


USB cameras by FLIR (Point Grey) for CCD/CMOS area sensors

The USB cameras by Point Grey provide some of the best price performance in the industry. They use highly sensitive, reliable sensors and come packed with many features.


The Blackfly line is the world’s smallest PoE camera and the Flea cameras are the world’s smallest USB cameras. The Zebra2 provides a rare combination of IP and machine vision features for applications requiring real-time viewing in addition to image storage or post processing. A proprietary GigE Vision link layer IP gives Point Grey complete control over the camera’s core technology enabling faster customer service. Frame buffer-based architecture enables packet resend support for optimal performance and reliability. Beside supplying cameras to diverse customers and applications, Point Grey has developed a rich library of resources with practical information on helping you set up and get the most out your GigE Vision camera.
