Zoom lenses have the ability to vary the focal length and thus the angle of view over a wide range. This makes these lenses particularly suitable for applications in which the object distances can change very much.
Compared with other lenses, these types show a larger minimum object distance. Objects which are closer than this value can not be imaged sharp any more.

These lenses are special types with a very short focal length compared to the size of the image format. This leads to a very large angle of view of more than 180 degrees, but also to a strong distortion.
These lenses are often used in surveillance technology, but also in the industrial sector are some interesting applications for this purpose.

While the focus positions for conventional lenses differ for visible light and near infrared, they are the same for the lenses of this group. This eliminates the need for refocusing when switching between daytime and nighttime use, which is of great interest for surveillance technology in particular.
