V Mount Lenses for Line Scan Cameras by Schneider Kreuznach

In most cases, the line-scan image acquisition method is used for complex web and surface inspections. In principle, this method requires a very careful selection of the camera and an optimally adapted lens in order to achieve maximum system performance.

The size of the sensor pixels determines the required optical imaging performance of the lens. Today's high-performance lenses have to follow the trend towards ever smaller pixel sizes and higher sensor resolution. This typically results in larger array sizes and thus significantly higher demands on the imaging performance or MTF (Modulation Transfer Function) of the lenses.

Visual process and quality control is one of the most important application areas in modern industrial optics. With the growing use of large-format, increasingly high-resolution image sensors, conventional lenses are now reaching their optical limits. Schneider-Kreuznach provides excellent lenses especially for cameras with large sensors of the latest and coming generations.

Due to their universal, application-independent design and a construction which is both optically and mechanically advanced designs, these lenses make it possible to take advantage of modern sensor technology to the fullest performance. With wide-ranging accessories such as extension tubes, helical mounts and adapters, these lenses are used in classic machine vision, LCD, PCB and web inspection, in medical applications, food processing as well as 2D and 3D measuring technology.

During development, regardless of the area of application, maximum priority was given to outstanding imaging performance, low longitudinal and lateral chromatic aberration, as well as extremely low distortion, i.e. two criteria which are of great importance for the new linear and area sensors and the associated application and tasks. The optical quality is supported by a mechanical construction which has been geared specially to optical requirements.

New, high-precision manufacturing methods allow the completion of the tightest optical and mechanical tolerances. For our customers, the benefits of this design are obvious: Schneider-Kreuznach lenses for large sensors are distinguished by their great Opto-Mechanical robustness and durability, even in extreme and constantly changing operating conditions, as well as by their very low maintenance requirements.

PYRITE Series (V38 Mount)

The universal lens solution

Formerly known as Makro-Symmar, Micro-Symmar and Apo-Componon, these lenses are designed for machine vision applications and meet even the most stringent requirements of next-generation 12k line scan applications. Finding the best azimuth and applying it in the inverted position allows for a customer-centric deployment.

The different lens variants cover practically all industrial application areas with the specially defined and optimized imaging areas.

At the end of 2020, the manufacturer made changes to the internal aperture body. The optical system remains unaffected, the performance of the lenses is not impaired and all external dimensions and the shape of the iris remain the same. The lenses are still supplied with a V-mount, its position does not change, so that all extensions and adapters can be used as before.

ZIRCONIA Series (V48 Mount)

The budget solution for high-end line scan

With the Xenon-ZIRCONIA lenses, Schneider-Kreuznach offers a very versatile tool for different line scan applications.

This lens family is optimized for a pixel size of 5 µm for use with 12 k (62.5 mm) line sensors, but can also be used with 16 k (82 mm) lines.

The maximum aperture of these lenses is significantly larger than that of the Xenon-SAPPHIRE lens family, which enables the lenses to be used in poor lighting conditions. These lenses are designed in such a way that the full resolution is achieved even at the fastest F-number, despite the typically reduced contrast of the Xenon-ZIRCONIA.

The Xenon-ZIRCONIA lens for the greatest magnification of −2 × is also available with a beam splitter for coupling in lighting. The lenses are broadband coated and can be used in the spectral range from 400–1,000 nm. The V-mount makes them easy to install and turn to the desired azimuth position.

Xenon-ZIRCONIA lenses can be used in a wide variety of applications: PCB inspection, quality control, FPD inspection, line scan, OLED inspection, web and surface inspection.

Key features

  • Image circle: 62.5–82 mm
  • High resolution down to 5 µm pixel size
  • Optimized for specific magnifications: 0.1×–2.0×
  • Version with beampslitter available

SAPPHIRE Series (V70-Mount)

The standard for 12 k / 16 k line scan cameras

These high-resolution, high-speed lenses are each optimized for a specific magnification range and are designed for 16 k with 3.5 µm (57.3 mm) and 12 k /  5µm (62.5 mm) line scan sensors, but can also be used with area sensors in many applications. There are XL models with an image circle of up to 82 mm.

The high resolution of these lenses makes full use of the sensor's pixel size of 3.5 µm and fully exploits all the possibilities of the latest sensor generation. As usual, they are compact, robust and can be locked in distance and openings. The V70 mount interface simplifies the installation of numerous mounts and allows the lens to be rotated in the best azimuth for a wide range of high-resolution applications where existing 12 k lenses (with approx. 5 µm pixel size) are no longer sufficient.

Key features

  • Extremely high resolution down to 3.5 µm pixel size
  • Image circle: 62.5 –82 mm
  • Optimized for specific magnifications
  • 11 magnifications available: 0.07 ×–2.0×
