Linear Lens Arrays of NSG

For applications with line scan cameras often linear lenses are suitable, if no enlargement or reduction is needed during imaging.

The SELFOC-LENS-ARRAYs of Nippon Sheet Glass, Japan, are linear arranged gradient lenses. Each lens forms an image of some square millimeters. Since this area is clearly larger than the aperture of the individual lenses, and these are lined up in closest packing, the images overlap themselves.

Thereby a some millimeter broad linear image of the object in the focus is obtained. The total distance between object and image amounts to between 13mm and 74mm (depending upon the used SLA) which is clearly smaller as with conventional objectives. SLAs can be manufactured in almost any lengths.

These products are often used in OCR card readers (e.g. for scanning text on Eurocheck cards or documents). You can find closer details about this in our application note about OCR reading units.
